How People Celebrate Christmas Eve
Christmas eve can be joyous time to gather with friends family and other loved ones to bring in Christmas day. Some have big dinners on Christmas Eve and make it the main holiday celebration. Some stay up until midnight and open their presents then. Others wait until Christmas Day for the big dinner and family/friend celebration, and some do both. Religious traditions on Christmas Eve
Roman Catholics and Anglicans traditionally celebrate Midnight Mass, which begins either at or sometime before midnight on Christmas Eve. This ceremony, which is held in churches throughout the world, celebrates the birth of Christ, which is believed to have occurred at night.
