My Grandma emailed me yesterday and asked me to pray for a 2 year old boy named Joey that has brain cancer that is spreading. My Grandma belongs to a prayer line and frequently sends me emails requesting that I pray for this situation or that one. However, this email about Joey broke my heart. I emailed my Grandma and asked if the family had contacted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She replied that she did not know but that she would ask.
I have been asking people to help me raise money for St. Jude’s and that the reception to my requests has been luke-warm at best. However, that is what raising money for St. Jude’s is all about, children like Joey AND their families. St. Jude fights childhood cancer. I want to share a story with you. Will, an agent that works with me, was having an open house at 5572 Thoroughbred St. in Oceanside last week when on the neighbors came in to view the house. Will and the neighbor were talking when the neighbor noticed a flyer requesting donations from St. Jude. She asked Will if our office supports St. Jude. Will told the neighbor that we are trying to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Give Thanks. Walk on November 22nd. Will then asked if she was familiar with St. Jude. The neighbor told Will that her son was a patient at St. Jude, that he had a rare form of cancer. She told Will that all of the doctors told her that there was nothing that could be done, just to make him comfortable. The neighbor said that it had been six years since her son was first admitted to St. Jude and that, although her son was not completely cured yet, he was still alive and, despite the cancer, living a normal life. The neighbor told Will that she believed that St. Jude had extended her son’s life and that she would be walking on November 22nd to support St. Jude. St. Jude is there when all other hope is gone.
I have 38 days left until the annual “St. Jude Give Thanks. Walk” in San Diego. I will be there November 22nd to walk for children like Joey and their family. I believe in what St. Jude does and the hope that they give children facing death. If you have not donated yet, please take the time to donate at http://walk.stjude.org/michaelgaddis Rest assured, you are donating DIRECTLY to St. Jude. Your donation will be credited toward my overall goal. It is important because I want to inspire other businesses and entities to help raise money for St. Jude.
If nothing else, please do say a prayer for Joey and his family. However, if you can find it in your heart to skip Starbucks for a day please take the time to donate anything at all to http://walk.stjude.org/michaelgaddis
